Description

Position Title: Special Education Teacher: LD/ABS

Start Date: 2025-26 school year

Mahtomedi Public Schools is looking for a highly motivated special education teacher to join our team.  Candidates with a passion and expertise in academic interventions are encouraged to apply. The position is full-time and part of the teacher bargaining unit.  The position will be serving students at OH Anderson Elementary, grades 3-5. Salary and benefits are part of the Master Agreement.

About the Position
Caseload: Approximately 15-20 students
Student Eligibility Categories: SLD, OHD, ASD
Other: Due Process Assistants manage scheduling of meetings and filing paperwork

Minimum Requirements:
Must have a valid MN teaching license: LD or ABS license, or be able to obtain the appropriate license from PELSB, Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board.

Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching
  • Strong knowledge of special education state laws and compliance to ensure IEPS are completed timely
  • Ability to establish and maintain standards of student behavior 
  • Ability to comprehend complex data to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports
  • Collaborative team member of a Professional Learning Community, striving to implement best practices for instruction and assessment 
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, students and parents
  • Seeks opportunities to improve their practice through coaching feedback and ongoing reflection
  • Excellent communication skills: ability to communicate thoughts and ideas with accuracy and clarity, ability to communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, student goals and abilities and overall experience in their classroom 
  • Calm demeanor and a strong passion for working with kids

Responsibilities:

  • Identify the needs of students through formal and informal assessments
  • Plan, develop and implement appropriate lessons to ensure the achievement of student growth
  • Communicate with students, parents and staff on regular basis on student progress and work in collaboration for positive student outcomes
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.  Use of data for progress monitoring and tracking.
  • Update all necessary records accurately as required by laws, district policies and school regulations
  • Attend department, school and parent meetings or functions
  • Other job-related duties as assigned
