Primary Purpose:Responsible for working with the building principal to support campus staff in instructional practices in the areas of English Language Arts as described in the Campus Improvement Plan and/or Improvement Required Plan.
Qualifications/Skills:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Valid Texas teacher certification or teaching certificate from out of state appropriate to position.
  • ESL certification, preferred.
  • ABYDOS trained or trainer of trainers, preferred.
  • Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by federal and/or state law.

Special Knowledge/Skills: 

  • Knowledge of and experience with interdisciplinary curriculum development, or willingness to learn and acquire new skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience with balanced literacy routines.
  • Deep knowledge in secondary literacy and language development.
  • Knowledge and expertise in English language acquisition, building academic vocabulary, ESL instructional strategies.
  • Knowledge and experience in co-teach and in-class support models of support facilitation.
  • Knowledge of best practices in first line instruction and purposeful planning.
  • Experience implementing research-based intervention strategies for struggling readers and writers.
  • Ability to generate and read MAP reports and help the campus plan for student growth accordingly. Knows how to manipulate data in the district data system in order to create student data reports in a variety of ways to meet the needs of the campus.
  • Deep knowledge of reading assessments and MAP.
  • Knowledgeable in formal and informal reading assessment protocols.
  • Willingness to learn, acquire and apply new skills.
  • Ability to train and support teachers in interpreting data to impact teaching and student achievement.
  • Demonstrate understanding of trends in the use of technology and national trends in education.
  • Show evidence of good interpersonal skills with colleagues.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and students.
  • Responds well to supervision.

Experience:

  • Knowledge of and experience with co-teach and in-class support models of support facilitation.
  • Experience in coaching and training teachers, preferred.
  • Minimum of (5) year as ELA Teacher of Record serving secondary students.
  • District or campus experience in coaching/training secondary teachers in language arts, required minimum of five (5) years.
  • Experience implementing research and data-based intervention strategies for struggling learners\
  • Proven record of student success. Specific data supporting such required if applicant is selected for an interview.
Major Duties and
Responsibilities:

Instructional Strategies:

  • Facilitate development of innovative instructional experiences and programs.
  • Model, coach, co-teach, and plan with teachers to provide differentiated language arts instruction for all students within a classroom.
  • Support use of district-adopted reading assessments to standardize administration, improve analysis of student reading behaviors, enhance district-wide data collection, and inform classroom instruction.
  • Support schools and teachers in analyzing and disaggregating assessment data to improve instruction, identify students in need of interventions, and differentiate learning opportunities for all students.
  • Coordinate services to strengthen related initiatives to ensure that individual student needs are addressed.
  • Support implementation of strategies to increase the percentage of students making progress in learning English.
  • Operate the student management system that houses student data, assessments, and all curriculum documents.
  • Coordinate teachers in utilizing student data to identify students in need of interventions.
  • Model exemplary use of digital resources across multiple areas of ELA.
  • Support campus initiatives and goals to meet the requirements of the Improvement Required Plan.
  • Analyze and disaggregate assessment data to improve instruction.
  • Support district initiatives regarding T-2-4, specifically getting students ready for academic and post-secondary success.

Communication: 

  • Act as the liaison between the campus instructional team and teachers to increase academic success for all students in the areas of English Language Arts-reading, writing and language development.

Professional Growth and Development:

  • Provide on-site training, modeling and coaching for teaching.
  • Provide professional development to promote understanding and implementation of LEP standards, academic content and assessment of LEP students to teachers, administrators and support staff.

Program Development and Other Responsibilities:

  • Work with campus principal and vertical teams to ensure continuity of core curriculum and instruction supporting English Language Arts.
  • Design and implement individualized intervention plans with specific strategies to address the needs of at-risk students.
  • Coordinate and implement the development of integrated lessons and units of study.
