Dickinson Public Schools is now accepting applications for Preschool Teachers for the Fall of 2026.
Location: Early Childhood Program- Hagen Building
Final teaching assignments will be decided based on student enrollment.
Summary: A preschool teacher is responsible for the supervision and management of a classroom in accordance with the philosophy, goals and curricular plan of Dickinson Public Schools. A Preschool Teacher is responsible for developing monthly lesson plans, implementing activities on a daily basis including evaluating the effectiveness of activities, supervising paraprofessionals and volunteers, creating and maintaining a classroom culture of health and safety, both physical and emotional, maintaining regular communication with staff, parents and supervisors and contributing to the overall effective operation of the child development program.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicate with parents about the individual needs of their children, including any special concerns the parents may have;
- Plan daily and weekly schedules of activities and make those plans available to parents; and
- Ensure that the program policies are adhered to in the class or group assigned to the teacher.
- Conduct Parent Meetings and Parent Conferences
- Conduct on-going assessment of children's learning;
- Simple daily housecleaning duties in each classroom;
- Check e-mails daily;
- Maintain safe, clean environment, teaching and modeling good hygiene skills;
- Attend all staff meetings and trainings scheduled;
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all personal information regarding children, families and staff;
- Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in education; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Strong interpersonal skills including ability to work and communicate effectively and collaboratively with a diverse population;
- Ability to work cooperatively with other staff members, to accept supervision and to help promote a positive environment;
- Excellent verbal communication skills, including clear speech enunciation, and accurate spoken English grammar that can serve as a good model for children who are developing their language skills;
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including ability to present to groups and individuals about the organization's mission;
- Warm nurturing attitude;
- Friendly, inviting, self-motivated, even-tempered and adaptable;
- Solid computer skills and ability to manage and report data accurately and efficiently.
Qualifications:
- Minimum qualifications:
An associate's degree in the field of early childhood education or child development;
OR
An associate's degree with at least one year of experience in a preschool or similar
setting and one of the following:- Eight semester hours or twelve quarter hours of department-approved early
childhood education or child development; - One hundred twenty hours of department-approved early childhood training
OR
- Eight semester hours or twelve quarter hours of department-approved early
- A bachelor's degree in early childhood or elementary education.
- Current certification as a child development associate or similar status
- Ability to maintain current CPR and 1st Aid certifications.
- Ability to pass Criminal Record Background Clearance with no exemptions;
- Maintain good physical health with the ability to perform job duties, lift 50 pounds, move quickly, bend, squat, kneel, sit on floor, reach overhead, etc.
Terms of Employment: 185 days a year following the Dickinson Public Schools calendar
