Primary Purpose:Assign, schedule and supervise the work performed by the plumbers and craftsmen. Assist planning and construction by reviewing future plans, blue prints, and suggesting recommendation. Oversee plumbing related projects and ensuring that projects are within SBISD best interest and specifications/standards. Develop a working relationship with district departments and building principals within all Spring Branch Independent School District facilities and campuses. This position is considered "Essential Personnel" during severe weather such as: Hurricane type weather, hard freezing conditions, major and minor flooding conditions.
Qualifications/Skills:

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years technical school mechanical or plumbing discipline preferred.
  • Master Plumber license required.
  • Valid current Class "C" Texas driver's license.
  • Permit/additional licensure

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of the City of Houston gas and plumbing codes.
  • Knowledge of city and county permit process and ability to request/pull permits.
  • Safety knowledge/code related to natural gas and drinking water.
  • Ability to operate excavating equipment.
  • Demonstrate supervisory skills. Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work well subordinates, peers and upper managers.
  • Ability to work with Energy Manager to implement energy efficient best practices and equipment.
  • Ability to perform extensive physical and repetitive activities, including but not limited to pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, carrying and the regular lifting of 90 pounds.
  • Ability to work for periods of time exposed to, but not limited to the sun, heat, cold and poor weather conditions and/or mechanical room and equipment noise.
  • Ability to utilize any standard technical and mechanical equipment to perform supervisor and plumber work load.
  • Must be able to read/write schematics, specifications, blue plans, prints and plumbing technical language.

Experience:

  • Ten (10) years experience supervising one or more building crafts.
  • 15 years experience in the plumbing industry.
  • Commercial and residential experience is preferred.
Major Duties and
Responsibilities:

Maintenance and Support:

  • Maintain the facilities of Spring Branch Independent School District in "as close to new condition or better" as possible.
  • Assist the Director of Maintenance in the review or development of projects, blueprints, specifications and improvements.
  • Inspect work of craftsmen to assure the highest quality of workmanship possible.

Reports and Records: 

  • Prepare reports and recommendations.
  • Write requisitions for purchase orders.
  • Balance a budgets and project future cost
  • Inventory all SBISD boilers and create a life cycle program for major and minor equipment.

Personnel Management: 

  • Promote the growth of personnel through education.
  • Encourage growth of personnel through periodic appraisals and review.
  • Promote and display leadership at all times.
  • Must response and be available to on-call and stand-by situations related to plumbing during weekends, afterhours and holidays.

Other:

  • Adhere to all federal, state and municipal laws, regulations or codes and local board and departmental policies.
  • Coordinate activities with other foreman/supervisors and other departments.
  • Schedule and conduct workshops.
  • Assure timely, quality completion of all tasks assigned.
  • Verify daily man hour logs, ADR's, vacation and other required documents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory
Responsibilities:
Supervise crewman and plumbing projects.
Equipment Used:Calculator , fax machine, ovens, dishwasher, ladder, small hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, sockets, pliers, crimpers, wire cutters, etc.), hand saws, power tools (saw, drill, sander, etc.), drills, grinder, welding torch, lift equipment, light van, seat belts, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs), fire extinguisher, radio communication equipment and cellular phone. Technical equipment: smart phone, smart tablet, computers and work order software systems.
Working Conditions:

Mental Demands:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Work with frequent interruptions.
  • This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.

Physical Demands:

  • Heavy lifting and carrying on a daily basis (45 pounds and over).
  • Standing, walking, climbing (stairs, ladder, scaffold, or ramps), balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, hearing, speaking clearly and driving truck or van.

Environmental Factors:

  • Exposure to temperature extremes (hot or cold), humidity extremes, noise and vibration.
  • Exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.).
  • Exposure to chemical hazards (fumes, vapors, gases, dust, smoke, etc.).
  • Exposure to electrical hazards. Work outside. Prolonged exposure to sunlight.
  • Work with hands in water. Work around moving objects or vehicles.
  • Work around machinery with moving parts.
  • Work on slippery and uneven surfaces.
  • Work alone. Work prolonged or irregular hours.
