JOB DESCRIPTION
General Description: The counselor primarily provides academic and personal counseling and guidance to students.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide academic and guidance counseling to students in grades 6-12.
- Tracks student credits to ensure on time graduation.
- Provide direct support in the teaching of social skills.
- Provide training to staff and students in the area of conflict resolution.
- Assist with state assessments.
- Provide Professional Learning Community (PLC) support.
- Coordinate registration and scheduling processes.
- Coordinate and monitor student interventions.
- Assist in managing student behavior.
- Provide emergency services to students in crisis.
- Coordinate efforts with parents.
- Maintain regular communication with teachers.
- Support and refine a career awareness program for grades 6-12.
- Fulfill other job related responsibilities as assigned.
- WA State Educational Staff Associate certification (ESA);
- a demonstrated interest in working with middle and high school students;
- experience developing a master schedule;
- current immunizations;
- background knowledge of special education laws and procedures;
- a demonstrated ability to communicate and work well with others.
- teaching, school counseling, and/or substance abuse counseling experience;
- Works in an office, conference room and/or classroom, typically seated in a chair, when meeting with staff, students and/or parents.
- Moves between offices and classrooms in routine job functions.
- Uses a laptop computer to maintain required notes and to access student information.
