Job Title: Special Education Teacher Assistant – Autism Intervention and Management (AIM) Reports To: Building Principal Classification: Paraprofessional (Clerical/Teacher Assistant) Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt Days: 188 Salary: See Compensation Plan for Paraprofessional/Administrative Support Staff, Pay Grade 203 Contract: None Date Revised: 11/15/2023 Primary Purpose: Assist students and teachers in the special education Autism program and general education classes. Qualifications/Skills: Education/Certification:
- Minimum of 48 college hours or high school diploma/equivalent plus pass a District Assessment.
- Educational Aide Certification.
- Ability to work with children using appropriate interpersonal skills.
- Background related to working with children and parents.
- Physical capacity to lift, transfer and otherwise assist students with physical disabilities (e.g. ability to lift 50 lbs.).
- Fluent in English (speaking and writing).
- Knowledge regarding Autism preferred.
- Bus driver training as needed, or as required.
Responsibilities: Instructional Support:
- Adhere to Texas Education Agency and district policies and procedures.
- Assist in carrying out the instructional program under the supervision of the teaching personnel.
- Follow teacher instruction and guidance.
- Assist with teacher planned activities, exercises and drills.
- Assist in maintaining student records.
- Participate in planned in-service and professional growth activities related to Autism and other topics.
- Perform other duties as required.
Responsibilities: None Equipment Used: Wheelchair, ramp, personal computer and various office equipment. Working Conditions: Mental Demands:
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Work with frequent interruptions.
- This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.
- Repetitive hand motions.
- Prolonged use of the computer.
- Frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.
- Moving small stacks of textbooks, boxes, equipment and other campus equipment.
