Job Goal:  To plan and provide speech-language pathology services to students with speech, voice, or language disorders. Assesses students and provides intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with students’ ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.
Job Qualifications: 
  1. Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  2. State of Delaware Professional License for Speech and Language Pathologist.
  3. Holds current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence.
  4. Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Experience in a school environment preferred.
  6. Experience with students with autism/severe disabilities preferred.
Essential Functions: 
  1. Plans and provides appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  2. Evaluates student progress and determines readiness for termination of therapy services.
  3. Conducts independent evaluations to assess students with speech or language disorders and conditions to determine eligibility for services.
  4. Develops clinical management strategies or procedures and diagnostic statements by interpreting observations or data.
  5. Participates in IEP meetings to assist in interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with communication disorders or conditions according to district procedures.
  6. Develops and implements Picture Exchange Communication Systems.
  7. Collaborates with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities to improve communication skills of students.
  8. Provides professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identify and understand communication deficits in students.
  9. Communicates effectively with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals and needs of the student.
  10. Provides speech and language services for students during the summer as part of extended school year and/or year-long programming.
  11. Establishes control and administers discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  12. Develops and coordinates a continuing evaluation of speech-language pathology services at the building level and makes changes based on the findings.
  13. Assists in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.
  14. Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other required documents.
  15. Complies with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and board policy.
  16. Participates in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
  17. Performs such other duties as assigned by the Principal.
