EMPLOYMENT: 10 months/year - Benefited - Full-Time position

GOAL: Work directly with students with guidance from the teacher. Provide coaching and modeling to facilitate the active involvement of students in their educational setting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to meet requirements for Highly Qualified certification by having the following:
- At least 60 credits of college education or an associate’s degree (transcripts must accompany the application).
- OR
- A passing grade of 459 or greater on the Para pro exam (confirmation of a passing score must accompany the application).
- Fluency in American Sign Language (preferred)
- Specific qualifications appropriate to the particular responsibilities of each position
- Experience and/or training in working with deaf/hard of hearing children (preferred)
- Possesses the ability to lift 50 pounds (with assistance)
- Must be able to use arms and hands
- Must report to work on time every work day, except as afforded by existing law
- Must perform all duties as assigned during scheduled work day
Position Description and Responsibilities: The person in the position of Paraprofessional at the Early Learning Program (ELP) report to the Statewide Programs for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and the classroom is located at the Charlton School Building (under the Caesar Rodney School District) has responsibility for assisting in the establishment and maintenance of an environment conducive to learning. Following are some of the major tasks that the paraprofessional may be expected to perform:
- Complete a wide variety of instructional assistance activities indigenous to the assignment (academic, vocational, job coaching, deaf blind, specials, specialists) to reinforce the physical, social, emotional and intellectual skills of the students
- Assist in emergency situations in classroom and with school nurse
- Participate in in-service activities, workshops, and staff and para meetings
- Communicate in ASL with students and staff at the appropriate level of understanding
- Assist in a variety of activities for special needs students as assigned, including dressing, toileting, and feeding
- Substitute for teachers or other paraprofessionals, as requested
- Perform other related duties as assigned
