Located in East Tennessee, Greeneville is one of the state’s top-performing school districts. The district was named the number one public school district in Tennessee by both Business Insider Magazine and in Niche Ranking’s 2016 survey. Also, the College Board included Greeneville on their 2015 Gaston Caperton Opportunity Honor Roll, which recognized the top 130 school districts that excel at creating opportunities for traditionally underrepresented students. 20/20 Vision Greeneville City has created a vision for where it wants to be in the year 2020 – aptly named its 20/20 vision. Dr. Jeff Moorhouse, Director of Schools, is leading this ambitious initiative. “The telescopic perspective drives the visualization of where we want to be in five years (2020) and beyond,” said Dr. Jeff Moorhouse. “We want our students to have the skills that will allow them to compete in the workplace for jobs that have not yet been created.” About Our Schools & Facilities The Greeneville City School District consists of four (4) elementary schools, one (1) middle school, and one (1) high school serving approximately 2750 students. The system also serves as the fiscal agent for the Greene Technology Center, which provides technology education classes for students in Greene County and Greeneville City. Teachers/Administration Approximately 242 teachers and administrators compose Greeneville City’s professional staff. Of these, six have doctoral degrees, 134 have master’s degrees, and 31 have specialist degrees. The average years of experience is 15.17. With the additional paraprofessional and other staff positions, the system employs approximately 448 people. Professional Development Greeneville serves as one of only two Professional Development Center sites in the state and serves the region with quality professional development. This provides world-class professional learning for educators in the seventeen school districts in upper east Tennessee. Funding/Financials Greeneville City continues to allocate more than 75 percent of its total budget for instructional expenditures. The state provides 50 percent, and the federal government provides 2 percent of the funding. The other 48 percent comes from local sources.
