Description

Job Description: Kinder Prep (Preschool) - Chinese Specialist

FTE:  12-15 hours/week

Pay Range: $22-$24- Additional pay may be given for experience. 


Job Summary: Plan and implement introductory Mandarin lessons for three, four and five-year-old children.
 

Essential Functions:    

  • The Chinese Specialist will provide short, interactive and engaging language and culture lessons to preschool children.  
  • Develop and implement fun and effective teaching plans that facilitate students' progression in learning Mandarin.

  • Provide clear structures for lessons, maintaining a lively pace and keeping students motivated.

  • Create simple yet challenging curriculum, incorporating engaging activities like coloring, pasting projects, arts & crafts, and more.

  • Establish and maintain a well-developed routine and classroom environment, effectively managing a group of young students.

  • Display enthusiasm, understanding, and commitment to ensuring positive learning experiences for all children.

  • Collaborate with teachers and curriculum specialists, sharing ideas, knowledge, and providing constructive feedback.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, both oral and written communications.

 

Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education or related field

  • Knowledge of language immersion best practices preferred.

  • Knowledge of International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme preferred.

  • Knowledge of Responsive Classroom preferred.

 

Physical Requirements: This position requires vocal communication, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, use of hands to grasp and feel, and vision abilities including close, distance, and adjusting focus.  Lifting/moving required frequently up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds or more.  Work occasionally requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and is generally in a moderately noisy location.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
