Arlington City School District

Description

Our journey began several years ago when the elected leaders and citizens of Arlington decided that local control of our schools made sense. Though there were many twists and turns with concurrent ups and downs, we believe that we are well on the way to realize a dream that was so far away such a short time ago. We have come far in the few months since the school board took office, with an eye on the lofty goal of our students walking into our buildings in 2014 for the first day of class and for them to never realize that we have formed a new municipal district. We stand on the precipice of achieving something that has not occurred in Tennessee in over three decades. The task is monumental but we have assembled the team that will make it a reality. Arlington Community Schools will officially open on July 1, 2014. ACS will have four schools including Arlington High, Arlington Middle, Arlington Elementary, and Donelson Elementary. It is estimated that the school district will employ an estimated 450 employees and have an estimated 4,500 students in its inaugural year.

Mission Statement

FROM THE BOARD: The Arlington Community School Board remains committed to being a board of the people. The citizens of Arlington will guide us by providing us direction and inspiration. We will be vigilant in our balanced approach to any issue that arises and will always remember our mantra of "it is about the children". Our children drive us as board members and as parents, which is why our commitment will not waiver until we secure the educational future that they deserve.

Equal Employment Opportunity Statement

It is the policy of Arlington Community Schools not to discriminate on the basis of sex, race, national origin, creed, age, marital status, or disability in its educational programs, activities or employment policies as required by Title VI and VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, Title IX of the 1972 Educational Amendments and Section 504 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
