Description

Title: Varsity Boys Volleyball Coach
Location: Greenville High School
Classification: Athletic Coach
Reports to: Director of Athletics
Schedule: Seasonal
Salary: $3,874 - $6,608 per season, based upon relevant prior experience
Benefits: This position does not meet the requirements for benefit eligibility


POSITION SUMMARY: The Varsity Boys Volleyball Coach will be responsible for leading and managing the high school boys volleyball program, including player development, game strategy, and team leadership. The coach will foster a competitive, positive, and sportsmanship-driven environment while ensuring student athletes grow both on and off the court.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: other duties may be assigned

  • Organize and oversee all aspects of the boys varsity volleyball program, including tryouts, practices, and games

  • Teach fundamental and advanced volleyball skills, conditioning, and game strategies

  • Develop and implement game strategies and make in-game adjustments

  • Promote teamwork, discipline, respect, and sportsmanship among players

  • Maintain open communication with players, parents, school administration, and other coaches

  • Support student athletes in maintaining strong academic performance and upholding eligibility requirements

  • Ensure all safety protocols, school policies, and league regulations are followed

  • Assist in fundraising, off-season training, camps, and community engagement initiatives

  • Commitment to regular and predictable attendance

  • Adherence to Greenville Public Schools core values: integrity, collaboration, compassion, and responsibility

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred

  • Strong knowledge of volleyball rules, techniques, and strategies

  • Ability to motivate and mentor student athletes

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

  • Knowledge of MHSAA policies preferred

  • Satisfactory background check

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

The employee must be able to:

  • Stand for extended periods during practices and games

  • Sit for extended periods on buses for away games and tournaments

  • Perform and demonstrate volleyball skills and movements such as passing, setting, and hitting

  • Move up and down the court, observe players, and actively engage with them

  • React quickly in fast-paced game play and to ensure player safety

  • Lift and move volleyballs, nets, training gear, and other equipment (typically up to 25-50 lbs)

  • Project voice loudly and clearly in noisy environments

  • Maintain composure under stress
