Shawano Schools offer a wide range of educational opportunities at all grade levels to fully prepare students with the skills and knowledge to achieve excellence. State-of-the-art technology is integrated throughout the District, providing students with wide access to information through smart boards, computer labs, and laptops. Beyond our comprehensive curriculum, students are also encouraged to participate in an extensive range of electives, including fine arts, foreign language, agriculture education, technology education, and more. Shawano Community High School also offers advanced placement courses, college credit opportunities, and career exploration programs. Shawano School District is located within the boundaries of Shawano County, serving more than 2,100 students throughout 189 square miles in the city of Shawano, Towns of Belle Plaine, Herman, Navarino, Pella, Red Springs, Richmond, Seneca, Washington, Waukechon, and Wescott. The District is based in a strong and active community, and use of school facilities is encouraged for all community members. Many organizations and businesses take advantage of large group meeting rooms, classrooms, the 750-seat auditorium, and the swimming pool for meetings, classes, and events. The District also aims to support a variety of student needs. Comprehensive special education programs, free and reduced lunch programs, the Shawano Family Resource Center at Hillcrest and LEADS, and school nurses, psychologists, and social workers are just a few ways we support our students’ needs. Both Shawano students and staff are leaders in our community. Our dedicated teachers and staff set strong examples through their participation in various community organizations and volunteering, and also have the opportunity to become leaders in their field through the district’s annual Project Inspire, a summer development opportunity for educators. Nearly 70 percent of secondary students participate in activity programs, including leadership and academic organizations, theatre, orchestra, band, choir, and 20 sports at middle and high school levels. Our students are also regularly recognized for Learning, Living, Leading The Hawk Way through school behavioral programs and other honors designed to acknowledge student achievement. Facility use is strongly encouraged by all community members. The District recognizes the fact that its buildings can and should be available for the public to use during off-school hours. Many organizations and businesses take advantage of the large group meeting room (100-seat capacity), auditorium, commons area, and swimming pool. Organizations also utilize the gyms for organized play and classrooms for small group meetings.
