BASIC FACTS ABOUT LEXINGTON ONE Lexington One serves more than 26,300 students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 with more than 3,747 employees (not including substitutes) and 30 schools (17 elementary schools, seven middle schools, five high schools, one technology center). The district also has an alternative learning program called FOCUS. Centrally located in the state of South Carolina, the 360 square miles that make up Lexington District One stretch from the banks of Lake Murray to the county’s southern border with Aiken County. Our district occupies 48 percent of the county’s 750 square miles and is one of the county’s major employers. 2010 Census Data shows Lexington County’s population as 262,391 and the area that makes up Lexington One’s population as 121,030 or 46 percent of the county. During the past 10 years (2006–2016), Lexington District One grew by an average of 533 new students per year. The district remains one of the fastest growing school districts in the state, ranking seventh in total enrollment. To keep up with this tremendous growth, Lexington District One has built 15 new schools since 1997. Even so, the district still uses 150 portables. World languages are offered at all levels including elementary, middle and high school. Our students excel in state and national award-winning marching bands, symphonic bands, choral programs, strings programs and athletic programs. Lexington District One students perform well on nationally normed assessments (ACT, PSAT, SAT, MAP).

OUR SYSTEM COMMITMENTS In Lexington County School District One, it is our goal to prepare graduates who are accomplished in 21st century skills and serve as a learning center for the entire community. We seek continuous improvement in overall achievement, such as achievement gaps, acceleration, and the effects of poverty, to accomplish this mission. Our aim is to maintain a strong graduation rate by providing students with skills they will need to be successful in today’s world, including being proficient in multiple languages. 1. All students, regardless of circumstances, advance on time, prepared to graduate and ready to enter college, the military or industry with certification. 2. Teaching and learning develop power skills in all students. 3. Our schools are service-oriented centers of learning, committed to family and community partnerships. 4. Every adult will be equipped with the skills and resources necessary to advocate for and ensure the success of all students. PERFORMANCE GOALS 1. The district will increase the percentage of students who are progressing on-time with the requisite skills for success at their current grade levels. 2. The district will implement strategies to improve equity in high-level coursework. 3. The district will implement strategies to improve performance in high–level coursework. 4. The district will improve the conditions that lead to student success in each school by utilizing a system of advocacy for each child that facilitates healthy social and emotional growth.
