Maggie L. Walker Governor's School

The Maggie L. Walker Governor's School for Government and International Studies is an innovative metropolitan school offering a comprehensive college preparatory program emphasizing government, international studies, science, mathematics, languages, and fine arts. The school serves students selected on the basis of aptitude and interest in government and international studies, and who intend to pursue college preparation.

The mission of the Maggie L. Walker Governor's School for Government and International Studies is to provide broad-based educational opportunities that develop gifted students' understanding of world cultures and languages as well as the ability to lead, participate and contribute in a rapidly changing global society. This mission is based on the beliefs that: 1) The nations of the world have become interdependent, creating an international community in which Virginia and the United States play an integral role. 2) Effective citizenship requires new skills, knowledge and understanding. 3) This global society will look to gifted students to become leaders, creative contributors and critical consumers in the 21st century. 4) A challenging multicultural program that provides students opportunities to develop.
