Description

Position: Elementary Building Aide

Job Description:

Summary: The Elementary Building Aide is crucial in providing support and assistance within the school setting. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities, including breakfast and lunch duty, arrival and dismissal duties, teaching reading and math to small groups of students who need extra support, supporting students in the classroom, and performing any other duties as assigned by the building principal. The Building Aide is expected to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment while fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere for students.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Breakfast and Lunch Duty:

  • Supervise and assist students during breakfast and lunch times.

  • Ensure that students follow cafeteria rules and maintain an orderly environment.

  • Assist with food distribution and cleanup as needed.

2. Arrival and Dismissal Duties:

  • Monitor student arrivals and departures to ensure a safe and organized process.

  • Assist with student drop-off and pick-up procedures, including crosswalk guard.

  • Maintain a calm and orderly atmosphere during these transitions.

3. Small Group Instruction:

  • Teach explicit reading and math instruction utilizing provided plans and resources.

  • Conduct small group sessions to provide targeted instruction and assistance.

  • Use appropriate teaching strategies and materials to address individual student needs.

4. Classroom Support:

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support the overall learning environment.

  • Assist with classroom activities, assignments, and projects.

  • Provide one-on-one support to students who may require additional help.

5. General Duties:

  • Carry out tasks as directed by the building principal to contribute to the smooth operation of the school.

  • Maintain a respectful and positive attitude when handling diverse tasks and responsibilities.

  • Act as a role model for students, demonstrating appropriate behavior and values.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help students succeed.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and tasks within the school environment.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the school building for extended periods.

  • Capability to assist with lifting and carrying materials as needed.

  • Tolerance for exposure to typical school noise levels and occasional outdoor conditions.

 

Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am to 3:15 pm
