Description

Position: Special Education Teacher: Self-Contained Cross Categorical Program
Location: Gower West School
Start Date: August 19, 2025 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Illinois Professional Educator License with Learning Behavior Specialist I Endorsement (includes LD, S/ED, EMH, THM, PH)

  • Demonstrated skills in developing and coordinating individualized academic, behavioral and social programming based on information from the IEP, progress monitoring data, direct observation, and input from other sources
  • Ability to assist classroom teachers with instructional and behavioral strategies to facilitate student's general education access
  • Demonstrated skills in providing training, consultation and other support activities to staff working with students with special needs
  • Skilled in providing direction and training to paraprofessional staff assigned to the special education classroom
  • Committed to building positive relationships with students
  • Committed to parent involvement and communication
  • Committed to collaborating with other staff and a team approach to achieve goals
  • Committed to a process of ever developing self-awareness, skills, and professional growth
  • Demonstrates a strong sense of cultural competency and equity
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan and prepare for high quality instruction aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards
  • Demonstrates the ability to design and deliver "just right" instruction to meet the needs of every learner
  • Demonstrates the ability to integrate technology to enhance and support high quality instruction and student learning 
  • Demonstrates the ability to use data to make informed instructional decisions to support individual student learning and behavioral needs and goals  
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and a strong sense of professionalism
  • Demonstrates an interest in contributing to building and District committees and/or extracurricular activities 
  • Demonstrate a clear sense of how to contribute to our:

Salary:  According to Collective Bargaining Agreement with Gower Education Association
