TITLE: High School Spanish Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Illinois Professional Educator Licensure for this position
REPORTS TO: Jr/Sr High School Principal
JOB OVERVIEW: We are seeking a passionate, dynamic, and dedicated Spanish teacher to join our team at Ashton-Franklin Center Jr/Sr High School, a close-knit school located in a rural community. This position will involve teaching Spanish to high school students, fostering a love for the Spanish language and culture, and supporting students in their language acquisition journey. The ideal candidate will be committed to creating an engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students. Candidate credentials to teach one middle school class is preferred but not required.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and deliver engaging lessons in Spanish, covering grammar, vocabulary, speaking, writing, reading, and listening comprehension.
Adapt lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners, ensuring all students are challenged and supported.
Use various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, group work, interactive activities, multimedia resources) to reinforce language skills.
Integrate cultural education into language lessons, exposing students to Spanish-speaking cultures, traditions, and current events.
Establish and maintain an organized, safe, and respectful classroom environment.
Implement classroom rules and discipline policies consistently with the AFC Student Handbook.
Encourage active participation, motivation, and respect for diverse perspectives.
Develop and administer quizzes, tests, projects, and assignments to assess student progress in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Provide regular feedback to students and parents on academic progress and areas for improvement.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit individual students' needs, including students with special needs.
Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn about current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, conducting research, and maintaining professional relationships with members of the World Languages community.
Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction, as well as student learning.
Incorporate technology into lessons, such as language-learning software, online resources, and multimedia tools, to enhance the learning experience.
Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment, and maintains inventory records.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Per Contractual Agreement and Board Policy. *The 2025-2026 contract will be posted once contract negotiations are completed.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel
SALARY/BENEFITS:
The base salary for teachers is $38,335.51 (plus TRS and health insurance benefits, as agreed upon by the AFC Education Association and the Board of Education.)
Twelve (12) days per year sick leave.
Three (3) days of personal leave per year.

Per the Ashton-Franklin Center CUSD #275 Collective Bargaining Agreement. *The 2025-2026 contract will be posted once contract negotiations are completed this spring.
