Palmerton Area School District

The community is a suburban school district located in the eastern part of Pennsylvania in Carbon County, approximately 16 miles north of Allentown, 70 miles north of Philadelphia and 40 miles south of Wilkes-Barre. The district is 7 miles from the PA Turnpike, Northeast Extension I-476, Mahoning Valley Exit Number 74. Our school district is 100 square miles comprised of the Boroughs of Palmerton and Bowmanstown, and the Village of Aquashicola, and the Townships of Lower Towamensing and Towamensing with a population of about 12,000. Major employers located within the district boundaries include Blue Mountain Ski Area, Blue Mountain Health Systems, Country Junction/The Service Team, PenTeleData Limited, Blue Ridge Country Club, Maria Rose Fashions-Palmerton, Pencor Services, Inc. and Micropack Corporation. We are located in close proximity to the Lehigh Valley and the Pocono's. The school population of approximately 2100 students is currently divided among four schools: two elementary schools are S. S. Palmer and Towamensing with enrollment of 1141; Palmerton Area Junior High School with 349 seventh and eighth grade students; and the Palmerton Area Senior High School with an enrollment of 555 in Grades 9 through 12. Approximately 96 high school student attend Carbon Career and Technical Institute, a school that is shared by four other districts.
