The Clarke County School District is located in scenic Northeast Georgia about an hour east of Atlanta. Athens-Clarke County is a dynamic and diverse community of approximately 100,000 residents and is home to the University of Georgia. Athens-Clarke County is the education, cultural, shopping and medical hub of the region. The Clarke County School District serves approximately 14,000 students and is one of the largest employers in Athens. In recent years, our district has been recognized on the national and state level for excellence in early childhood education, advances in classroom technology and services for students with special needs. Athens-Clarke County residents have demonstrated their support for our schools in many ways, including the overwhelming passage of a special sales tax for education. This tax has allowed the Clarke County School District to provide a laptop computer to each teacher, to enhance classroom technology and to significantly renovate schools.
