Taylor County School District

Description

We are very proud of our Taylor County School District that includes 7 schools (K-12), over 180 teachers, and over 3,000 students. Come see what we have to offer! We're ranked 2nd in the State of Florida for The Enhancing Education Through Technology (E2T2) Grant Funding. In 2005, Taylor County School District was awarded two Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) grants for a total of $600,000. Throughout Florida, Taylor County was one of only 12 counties to receiving funding for multiple grants. Taylor County, a part of Florida's "Nature Coast", was established in 1856 and has a wealth of natural beauty and resources. Perry is the county seat, and the central hub of road and rail transportation. The area is varied, including coastline, rolling hills, rivers, lakes, as well as forest. Residents and visitors enjoy pristine beaches, fishing, diving and other water sports. There are many trails for hiking, biking, or horseback riding as well as excellent hotel and inn accommodations. The Steinhatchee/Jena areas are considered a fishing and hunting paradise. Wildlife is abundant, and many varieties of fish, as well as scallops, stone and blue crabs, are found in the river and bay. Located within 20 minutes of I-10, Taylor County has many routes to travel on including: US 19, 27, 98, and 221, and we're located within an hour's drive to Florida's State Capitol Tallahassee. Citizens enjoy the "elbow room" they have in Taylor County, and visitors return again and again to share the tranquil and unspoiled beauty of an area that is still like Florida "used to be." With over 20,000 residents, Taylor County is a beautiful, rural, coastal community that is progressive and on the move. Major industries include a paper mill - Buckeye Cellulose Corporation, a large correctional facility - Taylor Correctional Institute, several large aluminum fabrication plants and the school system. Our coastal properties are part of the last undeveloped lands in Florida.
