Welcome to the Sumter County School District! Sumter County Schools have done extremely well on the Florida A+ Plan and, in fact, have met the requirements to be an "A" or a "B" district for the last several years - one of a select few in the state! Sumter County School District currently serves 6,000 students. There are 10 public schools, 3 charter schools, and 1 alternative school. All schools are SACS accredited. We have an excellent school system filled with some of the most dedicated personnel in the state, concerned parents and community, supportive Board members and wonderful students. Every school in Sumter County is aggressively pursuing our goal of assuring that all students are achieving at the maximum level of his or her ability. Our focus on academic achievement is paying off. Sumter Schools graded very well on the Florida A+ Plan and several schools made significant gains over last year. Sumter County has a population of approximately 60,705 residents and is one of the fastest growing counties in Florida with a growth rate of approximately 92% since 1990. Our county is situated in the geographical center of Florida with the Florida Turnpike originating here and I-75 extending through the entire length of the county. Being located in close proximity to where I-75 and the Florida Turnpike connect provides easy access to travel to larger metropolitan cities (i.e. Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville), major theme parks and cultural attractions, and to either of Florida's beautiful, pristine coastlines. We have 8 towns in our county, with Bushnell being the County Seat. Bushnell is a growing and dynamic community enjoyed by young and old alike.
