Okaloosa County School District

Description

Okaloosa County School District (OCSD) is a medium-sized Florida Public School District with 35 schools. We have are 21 elementary, 8 middle, 4 high schools and 2 K-12 schools. In 2005, OCSD scored first in Reading, Math & Science and second in writing on the FCAT, our state assessment. We serve special learning needs through a variety of models - inclusion, co-teaching, resource, self-contained, and a special school. Okaloosa County is located in the Panhandle of Florida, known for the beautiful white sand and crystal-clear water of the Emerald Coast beaches. We are fortunate to have a strong military presence and a well-educated community which support our schools. The Okaloosa County School District serves approximately 30,000 students from pre-kindergarten to adult education. Each of our schools has its own distinct characteristics while sharing the unified mission and vision of the District. Our schools provide a safe environment where students learn a challenging curriculum based on the Florida Sunshine State Standards. For the past four years, Okaloosa has earned the top spot in the State of Florida in either overall school grades or student achievement. As part of our commitment to excellence, our entire school District has been accredited by SACS-CASI. Our students consistently score above the State and national averages on standardized tests, including the SAT and ACT. According to the annual Postsecondary Plan, 64% of the graduating seniors indicate that they plan to go on to higher education or to technical training. Okaloosa high school students may participate in a variety of Advanced Placement (AP) classes at all of the high schools, as well as the International Baccalaureate (IB) programs at Choctawhatchee High School.
