Welcome to the Escambia County School District in beautiful Pensacola, Florida! Escambia County School District is "the western gate to the Sunshine State where thousands live like millions wish they could"! Our school district is actively seeking employees who are highly motivated, professional and dedicated educators who want to make a positive difference in the lives of our students. The Escambia County School District currently administers 35 elementary schools, 9 middle schools, and 7 high schools, as well as a number of specialized centers with 5,372 teachers that serve 40,613 students. The district is administered by an elected superintendent and a five-member school board. The current Superintendent of Schools is Malcolm Thomas, whose initial four year term began November 18, 2008, and who was re-elected to a second term that began November 20, 2012. The Deputy Superintendent of Schools is Norm Ross, the former principal of Pensacola High School. Escambia County is located in the extreme northwestern corner of the State, bordered on the west and north by Alabama, on the east by Santa Rosa County, and on the South by the Gulf of Mexico. The County encompasses 661 square miles, or 420,480 acres, with an additional 64,000 acres of water area. From the Gulf of Mexico north to Alabama is a distance of approximately 50 miles. The population is currently estimated at 296,709. Escambia County has a rich and proud history. The region provides a little bit of everything - casual beach living, active city life, or open farm land.
