Description

WELCOME TO THE COLUMBIA COUNTY (FLORIDA) SCHOOL DISTRICT! The Columbia County School System is the community’s largest employer of approximately 1,300 employees, each playing a vital role in providing quality education for all students by offering complete academic programs with the flexibility to meet students’ individual needs. Our schools remain the main emphasis for our community. There are 14 school sites within the Columbia County School System in grades PreK-12. There are nine elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools, including Fort White High which has grades 6-12. Additionally, the Challenge Learning Center is our alternative education site for grades 6-12. COLUMBIA COUNTY, FLORIDA...A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE, WORK, AND PLAY! Columbia County is located in a rapidly growing region of North Florida. The population has doubled in the last 25 years with our current totals at nearly 60,000. Lake City is the county's economic and governmental center and Fort White, located 25 miles south, is the home of the county's new high school. More than 10,000 people call Lake City home and Fort White has a population of 400. Lake City has grown into a town that, while cherishing its small-community charm and manners, it is forward thinking enough to plan, organize, develop and support modern conveniences and amenities. A variety of businesses thrive here and employ thousands of workers in professions that range from mining to manufacturing. Tourism is also a benefit to our area, as Interstates 10 and 75 cross here, supporting more than two thousand motel rooms and numerous eateries. Lake City and Columbia County are the hub for the nation's most outstanding canoeing, tubing and diving venues. Being the best has earned this area the title "Freshwater Recreation Capital of America".
