Indian River School District

The Indian River School District, located in Southeastern Sussex County, is one of the largest school districts in the State of Delaware. Based on enrollment, Indian River is the fifth largest of the state's 19 school districts. Geographically, it covers more than 368 square miles of rural farmland. The district consists of eight elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools, one school for the developmentally delayed, one magnet school, and one school for at risk youth, two early intervention schools, and an outdoor education center. Its schools serve over 11,000 students and its workforce is the largest in the county.

The MISSION of the INDIAN RIVER SCHOOL DISTRCT is to assure that students attain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to realize their potential, meet the challenges of their life choices, and fulfill their responsibilities as citizens of the State of Delaware, United States and world through a partnership of students, parents, staff, administration, Board of Education and community.

The mission of the Indian River School District Department of Special Services is to utilize a team approach with students, families, staff, administrators, the Board of Education and the community to develop and deliver comprehensive and individualized special education and related services that allow students identified with disabilities to become emotionally, socially, and academically successful learners ready to fulfill their lifelong goals.
