Reports to: High School Principal
Salary: $18.50-$22.00 hourly
OVERVIEW
The Bayfield High School is looking for a Building Administrative Assistant to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the school office so that the maximum positive impact on the education of children can be realized. The school secretary performs a wide variety of clerical and secretarial duties which require professional expertise, general knowledge of the affairs of the district, the ability to meet people, good judgment, and a high regard for confidentiality.
Bayfield School District is located in the mountains of Southwest Colorado and is a short drive to Purgatory Resort, Wolf Creek Ski Area, and historic Durango. QUALIFICATION
- Proficient in typing, spelling, math, English and computer skills
- Previous job related experience preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
- Submit fingerprints for a criminal background check.
- Completed and submitted BSD on-line application.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Adhere to requirements for confidentiality regarding student records; discreetly handle information pertaining to staff, parents and students
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies
- Receive and route incoming calls, process correspondence
- Maintain & Manage teacher and staff absences through district approved software application
- Communicate and direct substitute teachers in daily assignments
- Maintain accounting of Purchase Orders for principal
- Assist Principal with preparing and maintaining budget reports and documents
- Develop and maintain an effective record system for purchase orders and deposits
- Update high school web pages, calendars, marquee sign, and social media pages
- Prepare state required reports and other reports as requested by the principal and central administration
- Provide emergency assistance and medications to students in absence of the health aide
- Maintain office equipment and requisition supplies as needed
- Maintain information in student software system and keep records current
- Prepare and distribute weekly school newsletter
- Use district approved alert system to send widespread communication to families, guardians, students, and staff urgent or otherwise
- Order and maintain supplies and awards for school events in cooperation with counselors
- Assist counselors with processing student withdrawals
- Assist principal as needed
- Manage Principals Calendar and appointments
- Provide secure front entry point to ensure student and staff safety
- Compile and distribute report cards and transcripts
- Provide guidance and supervision of student office aides in collaboration with office and counseling staff
- Assist in planning, organization, and presentation of high school commencement ceremonies
- Inspire and work collaboratively with staff members and the community

- Perform any other related duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND TRAINING
- High School Diploma or equivalent
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EQUIPMENT
- Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., PowerSchool, Word, Excel, Google Suite, Adobe, Frontline)
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; willingness to communicate with families
- Dedication to high standards of excellence and the success of all students
- Technologically literate and motivated to use technology to enhance learning
- Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and telephone
SALARY
Per the Bayfield School District support salary schedule based on education and years of experience.

The employee must be able to hear the difference between bells, buzzers, beeps, horns, etc. The employee frequently communicates through speech.
