Lead Hill School District
Lead Hill School District
Description
Nestled in the Ozark Mountains, Lead Hill, in Boone County, Arkansas, has a mining heritage, which dates back to the early 1900s. That old mining town was buried under the waters of Bull Shoals Lake when the lake was created in the early 1950s. Residents at that time had to move to higher ground to the new Lead Hill. The schools were rebuilt in 1947. Some of the original buildings from that time are still in use and are undergoing a face-lift with walls to match the original Lead Hill School. Lead Hill and Diamond City are small towns with a potential to grow and lots of room to do so. There is a need to keep a viable school within the communities. We are well served by our taxpayers and built a new classroom and gym complex in 2001. As you are aware, there is a movement underway to close small districts of 350 or less. Lead Hill enrolls 390 children in grades kindergarten through 12th grade at this time. It also maintains a Pre-K program for 35 children. Lead Hill overlooks Bull Shoals Lake. Branson, Mo., the new Country Music Capital of the USA (37 miles) is less than an hour's drive to the northwest. Lead Hill has small industry, an excellent school, public services, and businesses to serve residents' needs. Recreational activities abound with water sports on Bull Shoals Lake. Families go to the lake as often as possible to fish, swim, boat, and simply enjoy the outdoors. The curricula center around needs for this school population with an emphasis on technology and vocational education. A Gifted and talented program is available as well as virtual high school classes and distance learning. Lead Hill boasts an experienced and well-trained staff with a commitment to our students. Come and visit. You will be glad you did.
