Description

Job Title: Technology Assistant
Department: Gunter ISD Technology Department
Location: Gunter, Texas
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Technology Department Supervisor
Summary:
Gunter Independent School District is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Technology Assistant to join our Technology Department. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive technical support and administrative assistance, ensuring the seamless operation of technology systems across the district. With expertise in computer hardware, software, networking (including router configuration and VLAN management), and audio-visual systems, the Technology Assistant will troubleshoot issues, maintain equipment, and support faculty, staff, and students. This role requires excellent communication, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic educational environment, with occasional after-hours or weekend availability for events or emergencies.
 
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Support:

  • Provide timely technical support to end-users via phone, email, or in-person, addressing hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose basic technical problems, including PC malfunctions, software errors, and network connectivity issues.
  • Perform routine maintenance, installation, and configuration of computers, peripherals, and software applications.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot audio-visual equipment (e.g., projectors, sound systems, video conferencing tools) for classrooms and school events.
  • Perform backups and restores to ensure data integrity.
  • Clean, organize, and maintain technical equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Network Support:
  • Configure routers and manage VLANs to support network operations.
  • Assist with network tasks, including connecting devices to Wi-Fi or wired networks and troubleshooting connectivity issues.
  • Support network configurations under the guidance of senior IT staff.
Administrative Support:
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including user guides and equipment manuals.
  • Manage calendars, schedule meetings, and prepare meeting reports for the Technology Department.
  • Maintain accurate records of hardware and software inventory, ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information.
Other Duties:
  • Research new technologies and software to enhance district operations.
  • Assist in the development and testing of new tools or systems.
  • Support technology-related projects and initiatives as directed by the Technology Department Supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in IT support, PC maintenance, networking, or audio-visual systems preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, and operating systems (e.g., Windows, macOS).
    • Proficiency in network configuration, including router setup, VLAN management, and troubleshooting (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
    • Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, and audio-visual equipment.
    • Experience with software installation, backups, and system restores.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse users.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively.
    • Attention to detail and adherence to protocols and procedures.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
    • Adaptability and eagerness to learn new technologies and processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar.
  • Experience in an educational environment supporting technology needs.
Work Environment:
The Technology Assistant will work in various settings, including offices, classrooms, and event spaces, with occasional lifting of equipment (up to 50 lbs). The role requires flexibility to work after-hours or weekends occasionally to support school events or address technical emergencies.
