Description

Idabel is a thriving community in Southeastern Oklahoma. When the Choctaw Indians completed their "Trail of Tears" journey, they settled in Indian Territory, in what we now know as Idabel, OK ~ from this proud people of strength and endurance, our city has prospered. As the county seat of McCurtain County, this community of 7,000 enjoys year-round visitors from nearby Beavers Bend Resort Park. Other attractions include the newly expanded Museum of the Red River with one of the finest Native American collections in the United States. Southeast of town is the Red Slough Wildlife Management Area. This premier bird watching and waterfowl hunting area has sighted more than 270 bird species, including many that are rare to Oklahoma and not found elsewhere in the state. Idabel Public School District serves over 1,200 students ranging from Pre-K through grade 12.
