Alva Public Schools

Description

The citizens of Alva are proud to raise and educate their children in this small town atmosphere. It is a place where children can be dropped off in the morning without concerns of the violence and drug problems of larger cities. Parents know their children are being taught by neighbors and respected members of the Alva community. There is a trust here you cannot develop in larger towns. The teacher-student ratios meet criteria set by the Oklahoma State Department of Education with 20 students per teacher in kindergarten through third grade. Fourth and fifth grade ratios are at 22 students per teacher and the high school is at about 15 students per teacher, providing ample individual instruction. Each school is equipped with computer labs, as well as an on-site counselor. The various facilities include three elementary learning centers, Washington (pre-school through first grade), Longfellow (second and third grades), and Lincoln (fourth and fifth grades). The Alva Middle School houses the sixth, seventh and eighth grades with an enrollment of 246 while Alva High School is home to freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors with 296 in attendance.
