Description

POSITION: High School Mathematics Teacher (4-9) or (7-12)

REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Assistant Building Principal or Designee 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time, 183 Days, Master Agreement, FLSA Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in his/her area of Instruction/Education 

  • Valid Ohio Certification/Licensure by the State of Ohio, Department of Education to instruct in his/her area of professional competency and/or assignment

  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License

  • Must pass criminal background check

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Assumes responsibility for the delivery of quality instruction and assessment in his/her specific assignment.  Ensures that maximum learning can take place to help students learn subject matter and skill that will contribute to their understanding of the concepts and critical thinking skills as mature and responsible citizens and members of the workforce.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Follows prescribed curriculum using approved instructional materials.

  • Provides individual and group instruction to meet the needs, interest and ability of students.

  • Designs meaningful and sequential instruction and relevant learning activities to meet instructional goals.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in subject area taught.

  • Prepares and uses daily lesson plans to integrate academic/career learning experiences.

  • Uses support services and resources to enhance the teaching and learning process.

  • Creates an environment for success, fosters a love of learning while creativity and innovative thinking are valued and encouraged. 

  • Consistently establishes high expectations for all students.

  • Meets high quality educational standards for self and students.

  • Organizes and maintains a clean classroom and/or laboratory in a manner which is conducive to support student learning.

  • Manages the program/teaching supplies.

  • Promotes and maintains a safe environment as defined by district policy and procedures.

  • Maintains up to date knowledge of technology utilized by the district to enhance the teaching and learning process.

  • Assures appropriate supervision of students at all times.

  • Incorporates current practices from business, industry and education.

  • Develops and incorporates performance tasks for students and projects that call for application of essential and continuing knowledge and skills.

  • Participate in open houses, parent conferences, attends all faculty and departmental meetings in accordance with district policy and the Master Contract, as well as, district events, as requested and scheduled on the district calendar.

  • Provides intervention for those students who have been identified as requiring additional academic instruction.

  • Evaluates student achievement/performance and assigns grades.  Prepares progress reports & consults with parents on a regular basis.

  • Works with family, school, business/industry and community to maximize educational opportunities for students.

  • Maintains an acceptable attendance record and is punctual.

  • Maintains valid teaching license with appropriate endorsement(s) for the position to which the employee is assigned.

  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, his/her designee, or the employees’ principal/supervisor or his/her designee.

OTHER DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.

  • Conducts and presents the position in a professional manner. 

  • Maintains a positive work attitude.

  • Effectively uses verbal, nonverbal, writing, and listening skills.

  • Performs duty assignments e.g. parking lot, cafeteria and restroom.

  • Actively seeks to acquire knowledge and skills to meet new challenges through involvement in professional development activities.

  • Is punctual and thorough in implementation of all assigned duties.  

KNOWLEDGE OF: Board policies and procedures, building policies and procedures, student code of conduct, community resource agencies, emergency preparedness drills, public relations, federal and state reporting, and records management.

ABILITY TO: Interpret policies, procedures and regulations, follow instructions, communicate effectively, prepare, maintain, and file accurate and concise reports, collect data, recognize individual differences, lift a moderate amount of weight, develop a rapport with students, staff, co-workers, administration and the public.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:

OCCASIONAL: Exposure to inclement weather driving conditions and severe weather, traffic, loud noise, unruly children/adults; attends functions or performs duties outside normal working hours; exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. Light lifting, up to 50 pounds.

PERIODIC: Exposure to inclement weather driving conditions and severe weather, heavy equipment, unruly children/adults; exposure to common childhood illnesses.

FREQUENT: Exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. Prolonged periods of standing and lifting (10-20 pounds). Bending, stooping and reaching.
