Boardman Local School District

Description

Boardman School District's Vision Statement encompasses more than 100 years of excellence in education. This year, Boardman High School is once again at the top of the list for the best Ohio High Schools in U.S. News and World Report. Boardman also tops the list of Best School Districts in the Mahoning Valley on the vigorous school ranking website, Niche.com. The district educates approximately 4,200 students across 6 school buildings. To ensure that all students have access to the quality education that Boardman provides, we strictly adhere to Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) principles in all of our buildings. Our three neighborhood elementary schools (K-3) are aligned under the same reading, writing, and math curriculum to ensure a smooth transition into our middle school and 4th grade . Elementary families enjoy Literacy and Math Nights for parents and students, Mentorship Programs that pair our youngsters with High School role models, and vast opportunities to get involved in community and school activities including STEAM programs, Music and Art. Boardman Center Intermediate School (4-5-6) partners with the community to provide extra supports for students, as well as creating a positive and uplifting learning environment. BCIS partnered with Boardman Lowes to create new green space for students. A collaboration with Second Harvest Food Bank and the Boardman Lions Club helped establish a daily school food pantry. Students are engaged, and taught to be socially aware and responsive to others' needs. They participate in a variety of athletic, artistic and academic opportunities. Boardman Glenwood Jr. High(7-8) has received more than $26,000 in Federal and State grants since 2015 for extensive science programs that include hydroponics for plant studies, aquaponics for ecosystem studies, weather balloon for atmospheric studies, wind turbine kits and an Industrial Compost System (EPA funded) to reduce cafeteria waste by 35% and turn it into compost for the Certified National Wildlife Habitat maintained by students in the school's courtyard.
