Reading Specialist - Sailorway Middle School

Job Title: Reading Specialist       

Reports to: Building Principal   
Terms of Employment: 184 days per school calendar year

Purpose Statement: The job of the Reading Specialist is to provide explicit instruction in reading to individual students and small groups of students.

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s Degree (Required)

• Appropriate State of Ohio license – Resident Educator or Professional Teaching License, Pre-K - Grade 5 (Required)

• Valid Ohio Driver’s License (Required)

• Successfully pass a BCI and FBI background check (Required)

• Training preferred: Reading Endorsement, college coursework in foundational reading instruction, other reading training such as LETRs, Keys to Literacy, Wilson, Sonday are preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one and small group instruction in reading with grade K-5 students.

• Attend professional development as assigned by the school district.

• Implement assessments as necessary to ascertain student progress.

• Participate in collaborative student performance data analysis with other VES teachers and administrators.

Evaluation:

• Performance of this position and its responsibilities will be evaluated annually by the Building Principal in accordance with board policies, the teacher contract, and the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System.
