Edenton-Chowan Schools is a progressive, public school system with four schools (White Oak Elemetnary Pre-K - 2; D.F. Walker Elementary 3-5, Chowan Middle 6-8, John A. Holmes H.S. 9-12) serving a population of approximately 2,500 students. Our school system is located in a coastal community of Northeastern North Carolina, and is approximately an hour drive from the Tidewater, Virginia area, The Outer Banks, and the growing medical and expanding business and industries of Greenville, NC. The school system has received both state and national recognition for its educational initiatives and instructional programs.

Mission Statement

The school system and the community are committed to the appropriate preparation of all students as critical thinkers and productive citizens able to adapt to the changing challenges of a global society. Our efforts focus on equipping all students with the knowledge, competence, and orientations needed for them to successfully meet the challenges and opportunities they will face in their career and family lives after graduation and to supporting our teachers. We are committed to providing support for new teachers. It is our responsibility to provide our teachers with ongoing training that they need to grow in their careers. With our commitment to their professonal and personal development comes the expectation that teachers and other staff alike dedicate their very best effort to educating and nurturing children.
