Description

The Carteret County Public School System serves the students of Carteret County, a county located on the coast of eastern North Carolina. The county is home to many commercial fishing families as well as retirees. Our school system is the largest employer in the county. The Carteret County Public School System ranks among the top systems in the state on academic achievement. Carteret County ranks 3rd in the state on the 9-subject End-of-Course scores, 10th in the state on grades 3-8 reading scores and 22nd in the state on grades 3-8 math scores. The county ranks 12th in the state on grades 3-8 reading and math scores combined. Test results for the 2003-2004 school year show that 8 of our 16 schools were designated "Honor Schools of Excellence" by the state, and made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). One school was designated a "School of Excellence". Five schools were named "Schools of Distinction". For the fifth consecutive year, the combined Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) scores of Carteret County students both increased and remained above the North Carolina state Average.
