Hobbs Municipal Schools

Description

The Hobbs Municipal Schools has transformed public education by raising standards, lowering drop-out rates and engaging students in hands-on-learning. The district is a Professional Learning Community in which an environment has been created so that all students can be successful. The Hobbs Municipal School district serves more than 10,200 students with twelve elementary schools, three Middle Schools, one Freshman school, and one High School. Students at these schools benefit from proven programs including Core Knowledge and Advanced Placement. The Hobbs Municipal School District's aggressive Advanced Placement program, open to all "A", "B" and "C" students, offers unique monetary awards for students and teachers based on national AP testing results. Advanced Placement study refers to classes taught using a national standardized curriculum developed by the College Board. Students scoring well on AP exams have the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school. Core knowledge is based on a mapped out curriculum of facts deemed "core" to a well rounded education. It stresses strong, relevant academics in the core subjects of math, science, language arts and social studies while providing children with hands on learning. Hobbs Municipal Schools pays for its teachers to earn their Masters as well.
