The District’s Census 2000 population is 10,244. The District offers a comprehensive educational program for grades kindergarten through 12 and the Wyoming State Board of Education and North Central Association accredit all eight schools (K-12) in the District. The District is subject to periodic monitoring by the State Department of Education, but has instituted its own quality control program to insure the needs of students as well. The District presently operates Lander Valley High School (grades 9-12), Pathfinder High School (grades 9-12) and Starrett Junior High School (grades 7-8), which are located in the City of Lander. The District also operates the following elementary schools (grades K-6); North Elementary, South Elementary and West Elementary, which are located in Lander; Hudson Elementary in Hudson, Wyoming; and Jeffrey City Elementary in Jeffrey City, Wyoming. The District’s total enrollment as of May, 2004 was 1,793. The District’s comprehensive educational program is fueled by the energy of an active and informed Board of Trustees, an experienced and dedicated staff, and interested and participating parents and community members. Providing quality opportunities in a peaceful, productive and purposeful environment, that lead to positive “next steps” for every student, drives the District’s decision-making process. Lander is a small town of just over 7000 residents located at the base of the Wind River Mountain Range. A county larger than some states, Fremont County has a population of approximately 36,000, and is home to the Wind River Indian Reservation. The town's economy is based on local ranching, farming, and numerous government agencies. L
