Crook County School District #1

Crook County School District educations students from five towns and three states. The school district offices are located in downtown Sundance. Moorcroft schools - one secondary and one elementary including students from Pine Have, are situated about thirty miles from Gillette and about fifteen miles from Keyhole Reservoir. Moorcroft is located on the western edge of the Black Hills and begins the transition from long prairie grasses to ponderosa pine forests to the east. Approximately four hundred and fifty students attend the Moorcroft schools. Hulett is a K-12 school located ten miles from Devils Tower. The town of Hulett is surrounded by red cliffs and pine forests. Two hundred and forty students, some from Montana and South Dakota attend Hulett school. Sundance schools, one secondary, one elementary and an alternative school (Bear Lodge) have approximately three hundred and ninety students. Sundance got it's name from Sundance Mountain just south of the town of Sundance. The late afternoon sun often creates a brilliant display on the stained limestone cliffs.
