Position Title: Robotics Teacher

Location: Southampton County Public Schools

Reports To: Principal

Job Summary: The Robotics Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and comprehensive instruction in robotics and related technologies. This role involves developing and implementing a robotics curriculum, fostering students' interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), and providing hands-on learning experiences in robotics and automation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instructional Planning and Delivery:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive robotics curriculum that aligns with state and national standards.
  • Provide instruction in robotics concepts, including mechanical design, electronics, programming, and system integration.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on projects, demonstrations, and technology-based instruction to engage students and enhance learning.
  • Student Engagement and Assessment:

    • Create an inclusive and stimulating classroom environment that encourages student participation and interest in robotics.
    • Assess and evaluate student performance through projects, presentations, competitions, and assessments.
    • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their development and address areas for improvement.
  • Curriculum Development and Professional Development:

    • Develop and update instructional materials, lesson plans, and resources to enhance the robotics curriculum.
    • Stay current with advancements in robotics technology and best practices through professional development.
    • Incorporate new trends, tools, and technologies into the curriculum to provide relevant and cutting-edge learning experiences.
  • Robotics Lab Management:

    • Manage and maintain the robotics lab, including equipment, tools, and technology resources.
    • Ensure that robotics equipment and materials are safe, functional, and well-organized.
    • Oversee and facilitate student use of robotics equipment, including assembly, programming, and testing.
  • Project-Based Learning and Competitions:

    • Design and supervise robotics projects that challenge students and enhance their problem-solving skills.
    • Prepare students for robotics competitions and events, including local, regional, and national contests.
    • Foster teamwork, collaboration, and innovation through group projects and competitions.
  • Parent and Community Engagement:

    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
    • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, school meetings, and other events to build strong relationships with families.
    • Engage with the community to promote robotics and STEM education, including hosting demonstrations, workshops, and events.
  • Administrative Tasks:

    • Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and other necessary documentation.
    • Prepare and submit reports, lesson plans, and other required paperwork in a timely manner.
    • Manage budgetary needs for robotics materials and resources, ensuring efficient use of funds.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Engineering, Computer Science, Education, or a related field.
    • Valid state teaching certification in Technology Education, STEM Education, or secondary education.
    • Previous experience teaching robotics or a related field preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of robotics principles, programming languages, and technology tools.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and parents.
    • Proficiency in using robotics software and hardware.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods.
    • Capacity to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of robotics equipment and materials.
    • Ability to perform tasks involving manual labor, such as assembling and setting up robotics projects.

    Work Environment:

    • Work is performed in a classroom setting, robotics lab, and occasionally in outdoor environments for field trips or competitions.
    • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for robotics events and competitions.
