EXTRA DUTY JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE:                   District Elementary Special Services Department Chair

DEPARTMENT:             Teaching and Learning

REPORTS TO:              Director of Special Services

FLSA STATUS:              Exempt

CONTRACT STATUS:   Extra Duty

SUMMARY:   Under the general direction of the Director of Special Services with support from the Elementary Special Services Coordinator, this extra duty position will lead the elementary special services instructional and professional development goals and objectives of the school district, and help to support equity in learning for all Owasso special education students. Many duties will need to be performed outside of school hours.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.  

  1. Facilitates elementary special education level professional learning communities, professional development, and district initiatives as needed. Meetings will be outside school hours.

  2. Identifies and coordinates quality resources, present-level of performance and transition assessments, and interventions for the elementary special education content area.

  3. Commits to maintaining a working knowledge of current best practices and state standards.

  4. Collaborates with the district Special Services leadership team and elementary special education teachers to maximize student opportunities for achievement and to establish curriculum alignment, goals, methods, and material resources for the elementary special services content area.

  5. Works with the district Special Services leadership team to facilitate professional development that is relevant and engaging for elementary special education teachers.

  6. Partners with the elementary Special Services Department Chairperson to ensure district alignment of curricular goals. curriculum alignment, goals, methods, and material resources for the elementary special services content area.

  7. Effective elementary special education classroom teacher.

  8. Provides consistent communication and serves as a key point of contact for district grade level teachers.

  9. Provide collaborative opportunities that support district elementary-level special education teachers in providing a superior and equitable education to all elementary special education students. 

  10. Serves as a liaison between the district Special Services leadership team and district elementary level special education teachers, strategically using feedback from elementary-level special education teachers to benefit the elementary special education content area.

  11. Willingness to learn, collaborate, and engage others in doing the same.

  12. Ability to effectively communicate through oral and written communication.

  13. Ability to participate in before/after school meetings.

  14. All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  1. Degree(s) required in subject area(s) taught or in related fields; Bachelor’s degree minimum

  2. Current contracted Owasso Public School’s certified faculty serving as a physical education teacher; must be effective in the classroom

  3. Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:  Computer literate; excellent written and oral communication ability; strong knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and laws applicable to education and special education; expertise in Oklahoma State Department of Education regulations related to curriculum and instruction.  Ability to follow all district policies and procedures. Demonstrating strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, team members, and administrators.  Comfortable leading and presenting to a large group of peers.  Willingness to learn, collaborate, and engage others in doing the same.  Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrates self-discipline and initiative.  Ability to participate in before/after school meetings.  Ability to work without supervision, and work as a team player.  Ability to document records accurately.  Ability to manage confidential information in a manner that respects students, families, and employees.  Ability to listen effectively.
