The mission of Promontory School of Expeditionary Learning is to provide a rich educational environment that views learning as an Expedition and uses the study of Great Thinkers to cultivate the value of excellence and the love of knowledge.
Using investigation and discovery to make connections to ideas and our community, we empower children to embrace challenge, act with humanity, and become the Great Thinkers of the 21st century. At Promontory students participate in 2 semester-long expeditions through which many core standards are taught. Teachers can also expect to spend time outside the classroom, in the field, working with students. There is overnight camping yearly. Fieldwork is essential to the practice of Expeditionary Learning.
Teachers teach a content area (i.e. math) but also have a homeroom Crew, and will instruct and assist students in writing, research, and project work. Teachers have an aide in every classroom.
If you are looking for an environment of learning where quality is the operative culture in the school and you’re willing to put forth the effort that it takes to help everyone in the school achieve that quality, you are encouraged to apply.
