JOB SUMMARY

 

The District Content Creator supports the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the Muhlenberg School District by identifying, developing, and producing engaging digital and multimedia content that tells the story of the District and its students, staff, schools, programs, and community.

Working closely with the Superintendent and District leadership, the District Content Creator serves as a highly visible, district-wide storyteller. The position is responsible for proactively identifying stories and producing high-quality video, photography, written, graphic, social media, and digital content that informs the community, celebrates student and staff accomplishments, highlights teaching and learning, and demonstrates the District's commitment to Excellence in Action: Equipping, Engaging, Empowering. Additionally, the District Content Creator is responsible for maintaining and updating the district website to ensure accurate, timely, accessible, and engaging information for parents, students, staff, and the broader community.

The District Content Creator is expected to regularly visit schools, classrooms, programs, activities, and events to identify and capture stories throughout the District. The successful candidate must possess strong creative and technical abilities, excellent interpersonal skills, sound professional judgment, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced educational environment.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Content Creation and District Storytelling

  1. Proactively identify, develop, and produce compelling stories about students, staff, classrooms, schools, programs, activities, and District initiatives.

  2. Regularly visit District schools, classrooms, programs, and events to capture authentic examples of teaching, learning, student achievement, school culture, and the student experience.

  3. Develop content highlighting, but not limited to:

    • Student achievement, growth, and success;
    • Teaching and learning;
    • Innovative instructional practices;
    • Academic programs and opportunities;
    • Student and staff recognition;
    • Fine arts, athletics, clubs, and activities;
    • School and District culture;
    • Community partnerships;
    • Facilities and capital projects;
    • Special events and celebrations; and
    • District initiatives and strategic priorities.
  4. Develop feature stories highlighting individual students, employees, classrooms, programs, and schools.

  5. Ensure content reflects the District's mission, vision, values, and commitment to students and the community.

  6. Seek opportunities to represent all District schools, departments, programs, students, and staff through District content.

Video Production

  1. Plan, record, edit, and produce professional-quality video content for District communication platforms.
  2. Produce short-form digital video content appropriate for social media and other digital platforms.
  3. Produce longer-form feature stories, interviews, informational videos, and special projects as assigned.
  4. Conduct on-camera interviews with students, employees, administrators, families, alumni, and community members.
  5. Capture and edit supporting footage, including classroom activities, events, facilities, student activities, and other appropriate content.
  6. Produce multimedia content supporting major District initiatives, programs, events, and communications.
  7. Assist with the production of Superintendent and District leadership video communications.
  8. Ensure video content meets established standards for quality, accessibility, captioning, branding, and appropriate use.

 

 

 

Photography and Visual Content

  1. Capture high-quality photographs of students, staff, classrooms, programs, activities, facilities, and events.
  2. Select, edit, organize, and prepare photographs for District publications, websites, social media, presentations, and other communications.
  3. Create graphics, infographics, digital images, and other visual content as needed.
  4. Maintain an organized and accessible digital library of District photographs, video footage, graphics, and other media assets.

Social Media and Digital Content

  1. Create engaging content for District-approved social media and digital communication platforms.
  2. Write and edit captions, headlines, brief feature stories, announcements, and other supporting copy.
  3. Adapt content appropriately for different audiences and communication platforms.
  4. Assist in developing and maintaining a District-wide content calendar aligned with the school calendar, District priorities, events, and initiatives.
  5. Monitor digital content performance and engagement to identify opportunities to improve District storytelling and communication.
  6. Remain current with emerging trends, tools, techniques, and best practices in digital content creation, video production, photography, and social media.

District Communications Support

  1. Work closely with the Superintendent and District leadership to identify communication priorities and opportunities for multimedia storytelling.
  2. Create multimedia content supporting District initiatives, announcements, presentations, and major projects.
  3. Assist with multimedia materials for School Board presentations, staff presentations, community meetings, and District events.
  4. Support time-sensitive and emergency communications as directed by the Superintendent or designee.
  5. Collaborate with administrators, departments, and schools to identify potential stories and communication opportunities.
  6. Coordinate with employees responsible for athletics, activities, websites, social media, and other communications to promote consistency and minimize duplication of efforts.
  7. Maintain consistency with established District branding, visual identity, communication standards, and messaging.

Professional Responsibilities

  1. Maintain confidentiality regarding students, employees, families, and District matters.
  2. Comply with applicable laws, Board policies, administrative regulations, and District procedures concerning student privacy, records, photography, video, social media, copyright, and digital communications.
  3. Verify appropriate permissions prior to publishing photographs, video, or other student-related content.
  4. Exercise sound professional judgment when determining appropriate content for publication.
  5. Maintain positive and professional relationships with students, employees, families, community members, and District partners.
  6. Attend District events, activities, and programs that occur outside the regular workday when assigned.
  7. Safeguard and properly maintain District-owned cameras, video equipment, computers, software, and other content-production equipment.
  8. Maintain and update the district website to ensure accurate, timely, accessible, and engaging information for parents, students, staff, and the broader community.
  9. Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Superintendent or the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required

  1. Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, digital media, multimedia production, broadcasting, public relations, marketing, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, professional experience, and demonstrated ability.
  2. Demonstrated experience producing high-quality digital and multimedia content.
  3. Demonstrated proficiency in video recording and video editing.
  4. Demonstrated proficiency in digital photography and photo editing.
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability to identify and develop compelling stories for digital audiences.
  7. Experience creating content for social media and other digital communication platforms.
  8. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interview and interact effectively with individuals of varying ages and backgrounds.
  9. Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and identify content opportunities without continuous direction.
  10. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  11. Ability to exercise discretion, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate sound professional judgment.
  12. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends, as required.
  13. Ability to travel between District buildings and event locations as required.
  14. Successful completion of all employment requirements and clearances required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Muhlenberg School District.

Preferred

  1. Experience producing interview-based, documentary-style, educational, or human-interest content.
  2. Experience developing content featuring children, educators, or community organizations.
  3. Experience with organizational social media accounts and digital content management.
  4. Experience developing graphics and other visual communications.
  5. Knowledge of accessibility practices for digital and multimedia content.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

The physical demands and work environment described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.

The employee must be able to:

  • Work in office, classroom, school, athletic, performance, and outdoor environments;
  • Remain standing or moving for extended periods while covering events;
  • Operate cameras, computers, audio equipment, and other digital production equipment;
  • Transport and set up reasonable amounts of photography, video, lighting, and audio equipment;
  • Move throughout District buildings and facilities;
  • Work in environments with varying levels of noise and activity; and
  • Perform assignments during occasional evening and weekend events.

Applicants must submit a professional digital portfolio or links to work samples demonstrating relevant content-creation abilities.

The portfolio should include examples of several of the following:

  • Short-form video;
  • Longer-form video or feature storytelling;
  • Interview-based content;
  • Photography;
  • Social media content;
  • Written storytelling;
  • Graphic or visual content; and
  • Other relevant digital media projects.

Portfolio quality, demonstrated creativity, storytelling ability, and technical proficiency will be considered as part of the candidate evaluation process.

The successful candidate should possess demonstrated knowledge and/or proficiency in:

  • Video production and editing;
  • Digital photography and photo editing;

  • Written storytelling and copywriting;

  • Professional communication and collaboration.

Experience with industry-standard tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Canva, or comparable platforms is preferred.

Employment is contingent upon completion and maintenance of all clearances and other requirements applicable to Pennsylvania public school employees, including required criminal history, child abuse, and federal criminal history clearances.

Performance will be evaluated by the Superintendent or designee in accordance with District procedures and the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
