POSITION: Community and Cultural Coordinator for 21CCLC Out-of-School Time (OST) Programs 

DESCRIPTION: Onamia Public Schools is seeking a dynamic individual for the position of Community Cultural Coordinator. The Community & Cultural Coordinator will oversee development and implementation of Community and Ojibwe/American Indian cultural program activities for all sites, particularly providing hands-on, experiential ones related to arts and crafts, local indigenous diets and cooking, indigenous games and physical activities, and language learning. This individual will also coordinate local Ojibwe/Indigenous Community Experts (particularly Mille Lacs Band Elders and the family members of youth program participants), and facilitate connections with local cultural resources (e.g., the Mille Lacs Band Department of National Resources and Department of Public Health; Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures; Nay Ah Shing Schools; and the Mille Lacs Indian Museum), and of program details (schedules, registration, supply needs, etc.).

This position will work across all sites to ensure access to cultural offerings to all participants regardless of their "home site". In this respect the Cultural Coordinator will collaborate with the American Indian Ed Department on activities and resources usage to ensure the best, most comprehensive programming possible. The 21st CCLC Program Director will provide primary supervisory functions over this position.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience working with youth in educational and/or youth development settings, and ability to positively interact with youth and support their development.
  • Experience coordinating, developing, and administering cultural activities, particularly for youth.
  • Strong skills, experience, or education in one or more of the following: visual or performing arts; sports or other physical fitness activities; sewing and other crafts; cooking and local foods; diet and nutrition.
  • Strong verbal and written English skills; familiarity with an indigenous language a plus.
  • Some post-secondary education preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.

HOURS:230 days per year; hours as determined by program needs. The hours will include before and after school, scheduled student days off during the school year, on weekends and during the summer.

SALARY:DOQ; position is dependent on funding.
