Title:                            Transportation Monitor   Reports To:                  Bus Driver/Van Driver/Director of Transportation / Director of Special Education    FLSA Status:                Nonexempt        Summary:                    Assist school bus/van driver in maintaining discipline and high risk behaviors while bus/van is in operation; maintain proper records and documentation; assist student loading, unloading and seating                                       arrangements as required.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

1.         Assists the bus/van driver in maintaining discipline on school bus or van; monitors and assists students while the vehicle is in operation; maintains proper seating arrangements   2.         Instructs riders regarding being responsible passengers   3.         Reports personal absences in time for the supervisor to secure a substitute monitor   4.         Assist the bus/van driver in maintaining cleanliness on the vehicle at all times   5.         Assists the driver in providing age appropriate activities to reduce inappropriate behavior while transporting children   6.         Exercises good judgment concerning emergencies

7.         Monitor students behavior continuously during the route, intervene during crises 

8.         Partner closely with driver, school staff, and parents to report incidents, document daily details, and maintain consistent behavioral strategies     QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.   EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE (preferred)   1.         High school diploma or GED   2.         This job requires an individual who is familiar with safety procedures, bus/van rules and emergency evaluation policies 

3.          Experience supporting individuals with significant communication needs, including individuals who are non-speaking or minimally verbal

4.          Previous experience as a Special Education Paraprofessional working with children, preschool-aged children, or individuals with disabilities
