THE SCHOOL BOARD OF HIGHLANDS COUNTY

 

LEAPS using the STAR-R Method (Situation, Task, Action, Result, Reflection)   required.  Forms will be sent upon completion and submission of application.

 

POSITION TITLE:  Assistant Principal ASSIGNMENT:  Assistant Principal  

       MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:1) Florida certification in administration, supervision, educational leadership or school principal
  1. Three (3) years experience as a classroom teacher
  2. Satisfactory clearance of a criminal history records check and drug screening |

 

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Physical requirements to perform essential functions and tasks which may include exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds of force as frequently as necessary; lifting, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping, pulling, and pushing, if required
  2. Completed a district leadership preparation program (verification of completion should be submitted to HR)

PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists the principal in the administration of clerical activities and auxiliary services
  2. Assists the principal in assessing curriculum needs, planning to meet such needs, assisting in implementing plans and evaluating results of the instructional program at the local level
  3. Assists principal in administrative duties (discipline, supervision, maintenance, etc.) when necessary
  4. Assists principal in enforcing state and district rules, policies, and procedures
  5. Assists principal in interviewing and selecting qualified personnel for employment recommendation
  6. Supervises and ensures attendance procedures
  7. Assesses needs of personnel and provides appropriate staff development
  8. Works with teachers to identify needed instructional materials and equipments
  9. Assists in the preparation of the school budget
  10. Performs formal assessments on annual teachers
  11. Orders textbook and instructional materials
  12. Assists principal in writing School Improvement Plans and other required reports
  13. Acts as a designee when principal is off campus
  14. Possess knowledge and skills in the use, application, and integration of technology and technology equipment
  15. Assists in planning summer school
  16. Implements performance standards and instructional objectives with teachers and assures that they are met or exceeded
  17. Coordinates school level electronic data processing services
  18. Responds to faculty personnel problems
  19. Assists/oversees with guidance duties – student advising, academic histories, and student schedules
  20. Makes classroom observations
  21. Works with School Advisory Committee, School Improvement Team, and Parent Teacher Organization
  22. Acts as, or designates, volunteer contact
  23. Conducts parent conferences
  24. Serves on guidance committee, LEP committee, MTSS team, attends staffing and signs IEP's
  25. Supervises school activities after regular school hours
  26. Develops of student handbook, teacher handbook and other manuals/plans as needed
  27. Acts as contact person for SARB, HRS and courts
  28. Assists principal with student activities
  29. Assists principal in curriculum planning
  30. Serves on committees for new teachers
  31. Works with the Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Programs/Principal to develop and implement Program Recruitment including promotional activities and materials and other related duties
  32. Monitor the effectiveness of recruitment activities and make adjustments to the recruitment plan as needed to ensure strong recruitment practices
  33. Ensure that teachers exhibit and maintain a high level of professionalism, instructional support and customer service
  34. Ensure the academic success of individual students by utilizing all levels of academic support available and by maintaining a high level of communication with parents to deliver program information and address individual student needs
  35. Stay current on the state's policies, procedures and legislation
  36. Deliver school outcomes based on a list of annual goals including student academic achievement
  37. Provide leadership/coordination of the implementation of the FSA State mandated testing, district benchmark assessments and other tests designed and adapted to measure student achievement
  38. Assist teaching staff with implementing any program changes and/or new software application introductions
  39. Exhibit high quality communication with all staff, students and families
  40. Participate in parent outreach activities (for new and existing families) through informational meetings in-person and through virtual meetings
  41. Oversee newsletter production, phone calls, and surveys
  42. Oversee the delivery of special education services to ensure that the school is in compliance with state and federal laws
  43. Provide assistance to families in need of additional support and encourage a high level of participation
  44. Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrate respect for others
  45. All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Performs other duties as requested by supervising administrator

TERM:

Length of contract and number of hours worked are determined by specific allocation as approved annually during planning-budgeting process

APPRAISAL:

Performance will be appraised annually in accordance with School Board policies

PAYGRADE:

According to the School Board of Highlands County Administrative Salary Schedule
