The Highland Local School District has an anticipated opening for one (1) Certified Structured Literacy Interventionist

CERTIFICATIONS:  Intervention Specialist (K-12) Mild/Moderate or related certification with Reading Endorsement (K-12)
Additionally, applicants must have certification from a program that is awarded AccreditationPlus from the International Dyslexia Association.  Accreditation
must have engaged in intensive supervised practicum experiences that were sufficiently designed and staffed to promote applied mastery of the
principles and practices of structured literacy in the service of preventing reading failure and remediating off-track readers with profiles characteristic of dyslexia.
Examples of Accreditation Plus: Wilson Level 2, Orton Gillingham Level 2, Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Appropriate teaching certificate or license required.
  2. Strong undergraduate grade point average – (preferable above 3.0/B average) from the institution granting the bachelor's degree.
  3. Demonstrates an understanding of children's developmental characteristics and needs.
  4. Training and/or experience to serve the special individual needs of students who require intensive intervention in foundational reading skills.
  5. Demonstrates knowledge of research-supported intervention strategies for all levels of reading.
  6. Ability to implement behavior plans and behavior modification strategies.
  7. Selects and uses effective instructional methods and learning materials.
  8. Willing to collaborate  with colleagues to improve instruction and analyze student progress to plan, implement and monitor intervention.
  9. Capable of collecting and organizing progress information for students receiving intensive reading interventions.
  10. Able to participate in meetings with parents and teachers to develop reading intervention plans.
  11. Possesses the knowledge, capabilities, and dispositions to develop as a reflective practitioner and continuous learner.

SALARY:
The person selected to fill this position will be placed at the appropriate step of the salary schedule
contained in the negotiated agreement between the HEA and the Highland Board of Education.
