Description

Job Title: Speech & Language Pathology Assistant

Location:  Tuttle Elementary

Education: Associate's Degree in speech-language pathology, or post-secondary equivalent course work and equivalent training and experience

Rate of Pay: Hourly rate $33.00 

Start Date: August 24, 2026

This is a 10 months, full time position. 

 

Responsibilities: under the supervision of our school based Speech & Language Pathologists, the Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) completes a variety of tasks such as activities designed to develop use of assistive technology devices for communication; works with students who have identified speech and language disorders as well as other disabilities; performs related duties as assigned. 

 

Essential Function: 

The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the position; it is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties. 

         Provides direct treatment assistance to students at various  school sites

         Follows and implement documented treatment plans or protocols 

         Documents student progress toward meeting established objective and reports the information to therapists

         Assists the therapists during assessments by assisting with documentation and performing clerical duties

         Prepares therapy materials such as visual boards, word walls, communication boards  and/or equipment for use in therapy activities

         Programs and troubleshoot Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices

         Adapts or modifies instructional materials and/or equipment as determined by student needs and abilities

         Assists in maintaining student records, tallying data, preparing charts,, records, graphs and reports

         Observe and reports significant behavioral patterns or other problems to the therapist 

         Assists in maintaining appropriate behavior between activities; prepares various teaching materials such as charts, pictures, words lists, and other related items.

 

Knowledge and Skills: 

         Familiarity with speech and language pathology equipment, materials, and procedures

         Understand of normal speech, language, and hearing development 

         Knowledge of language, articulation and acquired disorders as well as associated rehabilitation

         Experience with terminology related to communicate disorders

         Ability to strategize techniques for student behavior  management 

         Familiarity with AAC devices and other assistive technology 

         Ability to use appropriately a variety of screening tools and protocols to administer and score screenings

         Ability to provide effective implementation of therapy objectives

         Ability to interact and communicate effectively with children and adults form different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds

         Ability to maintain and troubleshoot assistive equipment 

         Ability to use a computer and IPad using standard software applications

         Ability to react with flexibility and sensitivity to changing situations and needs 

         Ability to organize and prioritize work

         Ability to maintain cooperative work relationships
