JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Preschool Special Needs Classroom Teacher
Evaluated by: Principal/Assistant Principal
Job Description: The Preschool Special Needs Classroom Teacher is assigned as a generalist to deliver a comprehensive educational program in accordance with state law and West Virginia Board of Education and county policies and regulations.
Qualifications: Holds or qualifies for a West Virginia Professional Certificate endorsed for preschool special needs.
Qualifies or agrees to qualify as a “Highly Qualified Teacher”.
Length of Employment: 200 Days
Responsibilities: The Preschool Special Needs Classroom Teacher shall have the following responsibilities and duties:
- To implement the programs of study approved by the West Virginia Board of Education
- To create and maintain a classroom climate conducive to learning for all students.
- To utilize instructional management systems models that increase student learning.
- To monitor student progress toward mastery of content standards and objectives.
- To communicate effectively with the educational community and parents/guardians on a
- To demonstrate competence in standards-based lesson design and implementation.
- To implement the state and county assessment program in accordance with state and county policies.
- To implement federal and state-mandated initiatives at the preschool level.
- To complete and submit all reports in a timely manner as required by law, the West Virginia Department of Education, and/or the county Board of Education.
- To report the presence of any situation that may be harmful to the health and safety of the students and/or staff.
- To screen and complete evaluations for any child who has learning deficiencies.
- To participate in the development of the Individualized Education Program for each student assigned to the preschool special needs caseload.
- To participate in appropriate aspects of the due process system.
- To advise the principal of the presence of any situation that may require immediate intervention so as not to hinder the instructional program.
- To complete duty assignments as designated by the principal.
- To communicate to parents/guardians the progress and/or deficiencies of students.
- To accept responsibility for the behavior of the students assigned.
- To supervise students at all times in accordance with state, county and school policies.
- To attend all faculty senate and other required meetings.
- To fulfill annual continuing education requirements and attend other required training programs.
- To report student attendance as legally required and in accordance with county policy.
- To maintain and order supplies and equipment necessary for the successful operation of the instructional program.
- To accept reasonable extra duty assignments necessary for a successful preschool program.
- To use benchmarks and formative assessment on a regular basis to guide instructional plans.
- To participate in school and district in-service trainings to gain knowledge of school and district initiatives.
- To establish and maintain standards of classroom management that foster a learning environment.
- To provide individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students.
- To maintain professional work habits.
- To maintain and upgrade professional skills.
- To meet all professional responsibilities.
- To perform other duties as assigned by the principal or Preschool/Preschool Special Needs Coordinator.
