Special Education Teaching Assistant

Reports To: Teacher and Principal
Knowledge, Skills & Implementation
- Engaged and present during class sessions
- Good communication skills, following written and verbal instructions
- Ability to relate to students with compassion
- Maintain confidentiality of student information at all times
- Demonstrates a high level of integrity and accountability
- Demonstrates patience when dealing with students with varying abilities
- The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substances abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the corporation.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by teacherl and other administrative staff as designated by the superintendent
Instructional Leadership
- 180 Days, follows school calendar, present for all students days
- Guide and assist students with lessons, activities and technology tasks under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Maintain a visible, active presence during student transition times to prevent and address behavioral issues including but not limited to cafeteria, recess, arrival and departure times.
- Reinforce concepts that were taught in specialized instruction.
- Assist teachers with classroom activities and lessons.
- Adapt and modify coursework under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Attend field trips and other community activities implemented for students.
- Assist classroom teachers with implementing behavior support plans
- Additional supervision as required by the teacher
Qualifications & Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
